Behold a blog

An inordinate amount of work for a simple website

We're finally blogging.

This has turned out to be quite the undertaking. I'm starting to appreciate why there are so many companies that charge exorbitant fees for a quick and easy website. However, I'm a cheapskate and I like to learn, so I've decided to go about this on my own. From setting up the server itself, to writing all the code for the site, this entire website is hand-crafted.

A month or so ago I started this website up with (relatively) little amount of work since I'm using 11ty to generate the code for the site. Webpages are not my strong suit, so it was nice to be able to use something that handled the hard parts for me. However, a few weeks ago I began trying to add blogging functionality and I damn near lost my mind. Thankfully, 11ty has some (mostly) working code in their open source base website, so I refactored/rearranged (and fixed) a significant portion of it to fit inside my own framework. Pretty much all of the code that handles how posts are made and organized is cribbed from their example code. Most importantly, no AI was used during the creation of this website. All the mistakes and errors you find are my own (unless they came from 11ty in which case all the code I've written is perfect).

I think I'm happy with how things look/operate right now. I will say things look rather bare, but we'll get there eventually. Also at some point I would like to get some actual art created for the page by a real-life artist (first I need to acutally figure out what that art should be). This will come if/when I actually begin to create content for this website on an actual schedule.

For now, I'm celebrating that I have a fun, little place of my own to write my own silly thoughts. On that note, it's been quite a while since I've written anything expositorily, so this will also be a good exercise to keep my mind sharp.
